Empire State Marathon Training Programs
Marathon and Half Marathon training programs in the Syracuse area are open for registration. Fred Joslyn, of Fleet Feet of Syracuse and Kevin Collins, of the YMCA have running programs that will help prepare you for the Empire State Marathon and Half Marathon.
Fleet Feet Syracuse
Our Summer session will meet on Thursdays at 5:45 p.m. at Long Branch Park and begin on July 19th. The long run will take place on Sundays at 7:30 a.m. at Green Lakes State Park. The program will run for 14 weeks and lead up to our goal race, Empire State Marathon on October 21.
Fleet Feet’s marathon training program is a complete 14-week training program that will help you complete a marathon. This program will focus on gaining endurance to complete a marathon and will include speed workouts specifically designed to help you run a personal best time. Our program includes coaching and support and we will maintain a ratio of one coach for no more than 15 participants. We will have a workout once a week at Long Branch Park and a Sunday long run. In addition to the two weekly group workouts, you will be expected to go out at least twice a week on your own. The program fee is $200 and in addition to the coached program includes a team tech shirt to wear on race day.

This program will focus on gaining endurance to complete a half marathon and will include speed workouts specifically designed to help you run a personal best time. Our program includes coaching and support and we will maintain a ratio of one coach for no more than 15 participants. We will have a workout once a week at Long Branch Park and a Sunday long run. In addition to the two weekly group workouts, you will be expected to go out at least twice a week on your own. The program fee is $150 and in addition to the coached program includes a team tech shirt to wear on race day.

YMCA of Greater Syracuse
Fall Marathon/Half-Marathon Program (Registration Open!)
This October race-specific, 20-25 week, four phase running programs provides one weekday workout which will include variable hill repetitions, short/long interval and tempo-style workouts and one weekend all-attendance long run that will encompass all current YMCA running program participants from the North, Downtown, and East YMCA branches. Long run lengths indicated in logbooks provided.
The final phase of this program will be custom designed for any race between the dates of Oct 6th and November 3rd weekends which will include Syracuse Empire State Marathon & Half-Marathons as well as the Bread Run Half-Marathon in Fabius.
In 2011 the Y-marathon program produced 13 personal best marathons and NINE Boston Marathon qualifiers in a variety of age categories! Use this program for a variety for your Marathon or Half-Marathons of choice. Taper plans will be modified for your event. Registrants do NOT have to participate in a Marathon or Half-Marathon to participate!

- Networking with YMCA Members of similar running abilities and goals from each of the three Syracuse area YMCA’s (North, East, Downtown).
- Attention to necessary training fundamentals for optimal fitness and development.
- Detailed training plans and logbooks for program duration.
- Twice-weekly group training and entry into the Y-running online group network.

YMCA of Greater Syracuse All-Attendance Long Runs (All Levels, Year-Round)
Included with your registration into current programs. All active participants attend! Network with runners from all active running programs from the East, North and Downtown YMCA’s with this all-attendance long run. Long Run lengths specific to level and program training logs provided. Choose one of these two group long runs that will include active participants from various running programs Beginners – Advanced.
9:30am Start time. (North Y – Childcare provided)
7:00am (Marathoners), 8:00am (Welcome Spring Runners)
Even days – Green Lakes State Park (Beach Area)
Odd days – Onondaga Lake Park (Willow Bay)
